Abstract

This study aims to describe teachers' views on the application of discussion methods in improving students' Arabic language proficiency. Arabic language proficiency is one of the important competencies in foreign language learning that requires the active involvement of students in the communication process. However, learning Arabic in the classroom is often still conventional and teacher-centered, limiting students' opportunities to practice orally. Therefore, the discussion method is seen as one of the learning alternatives that is able to encourage interaction, active participation, and student courage in using Arabic. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive study design. The research subjects consist of Arabic teachers who apply discussion methods in the learning process. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, learning observations, and supporting documentation. All data were analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis techniques through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawn. The results of the study showed that teachers viewed the discussion method as an effective learning strategy in improving students' Arabic language proficiency, especially in the aspects of speaking boldness, fluency, and vocabulary comprehension. The discussion method is also considered to be able to create a more communicative and collaborative classroom atmosphere. Despite this, teachers still face several obstacles, such as differences in students' abilities, time constraints, and a lack of a supportive language environment outside the classroom. Overall, the discussion method has great potential to improve students' Arabic language proficiency if implemented in a planned manner and supported by the right learning strategies.
